1:35 German Fuel Jerry Cans SS (12 pcs)

German fuel jerrycans in a special marking

A set of tiny equipment for models of military vehicles and for scenes in 1:35 scale. You will not find a year of production in the name; what sets the item apart is exactly the marking that the containers carried on the neck. The quantity given in the name is twelve pieces. The supplier is GasPatch models.

Where the real subject comes from

The real subject is the standardized German portable container for fuel, of the kind that in the end became the norm in European armies. The shape came about so that the containers could be stacked side by side easily and so that one man could carry two pieces at once: flat sides, handles above one another in one line and a quick closure that shut by flipping a lever. The different stamped marks on the neck are exactly what the individual forms can be told apart by, even on a model, if the builder lets them stand out.

Placement on a model

They stand out most where they are together: stacked in the corner of a cargo bed, in a wire basket above a fender or leaned against a crate of ammunition. In a scene it helps when they are not all the same: turn some of them a different way, lay one on its side. The painting is managed by a matte base, after drying a light drawing of a dark shade into the swages and finally a dry brush that lifts the edges. Traces of spilled contents are made by a glossy transparent shade applied only in vertical streaks below the closure.

Who the set is useful for

• Builders who lack small items to enliven empty areas
• Diorama makers preparing the support of a column
• Anyone interested in a less usual form of the containers
• Everyone who builds several vehicles and uses up equipment in larger numbers
