An armored night vision box for the Jagdpanther 1:35: hypothetical equipment marked in the name as what if, for adding to the rear of the hull.
Responsibility details are not available.
The armored box of the German night vision set, adapted for a model of the Jagdpanther tank destroyer in 1:35 scale. The what if suffix in the name points out that this is a hypothetical combination, not a machine documented as built.
From the end of 1944 the German army was introducing infrared devices meant to let crews fight even in complete darkness. The best known set was called Sperber and was mounted on the commander's cupola of Panther tanks; it comprised an infrared searchlight, an image converter and a power supply, for which the vehicle carried a separate armored box. Actual combat use in the last months of the war was only isolated, and its extent is disputed by historians to this day. A Jagdpanther with this equipment is not documented, and so the set suits what-if builds above all.
Seat the box at the rear of the hull so that it does not clash with the hatches or the cooling grilles, and try the position dry beforehand. Because this is late equipment, a late camouflage scheme with an ocher base and sprayed patches suits it. The sharp edges of the box will take being brought out in a lighter shade, while the lower part deserves traces of mud thrown up by the tracks.
