This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter captures the German Neubaufahrzeug multi-turret heavy tank in the Nr.3-5 version. The richly broken-up kit contains parts on a number of sprues, photo-etched parts, metal gun barrels (with the option of using plastic ones as well) and individual track links. The model builds the hull with the main turret and two smaller machine gun turrets.
The Neubaufahrzeug, meaning new construction vehicle, was designed in 1933 as an attempt at a German multi-turret heavy tank. In its main turret it carried a 7.5 cm gun and a 3.7 cm gun coupled with it, supplemented by two smaller turrets with machine guns at the front and the rear. Only a few were built; they served mainly for propaganda and some of them were used during the occupation of Norway in 1940. It was a dead end in development, replaced by the single-turret concept.
First assemble the running gear and the individual track links, then the hull and the individual turrets. Use thin modeling cement on the plastic, and clean the metal gun barrels and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue. The real vehicle wore a gray finish (Panzergrau), so spray the surface with a primer and apply the paint with an airbrush. You bring out the details with a dark wash, the edges with a dry brush and the dust on the chassis with pigments.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
