A resin detail set from Aires in 1:48 scale showing the exhaust nozzles in the closed position for the Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet carrier fighter. The set is made for both the single-seat E version and the two-seat F version. This is not an airplane model but an accessory for a plastic kit. The cast parts replace the nozzles of the kit with a more finely worked rendering.
The Super Hornet is an enlarged version of the carrier-based multirole fighter, powered by a pair of turbojets. The shape of the exhaust nozzle varies with the engine setting; the closed position matches a lower thrust state, typically when standing or taxiing. The E version is single-seat, the F version two-seat.
Wash the parts to remove the mold release agent, cut off the casting blocks and align them with the rear end of the fuselage. Bond them with super glue (cyanoacrylate) and sand with airway protection. The inside of the nozzles comes alive once painted in heat-stressed metallic shades and lightly brought out with a wash.
This is a resin accessory for a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
