A photo-etched set from Voyager Model with side armor skirts for the German StuG.IV assault gun in 1:35 scale, the pivot-mounted swinging type. A detail accessory, not a model. The skirts are designed for the Dragon kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A photo-etched brass set from Voyager Model in 1:35 scale with side armor skirts (Schürzen) for the German StuG.IV assault gun of the Second World War period. The set offers the swinging type held on pivots, so the individual plates can be shown folded down or swung aside. It is not a kit of the vehicle but a detail accessory replacing the plastic skirts. Both the hangers and the spacing of the plates are based on the sides of the Dragon kit.
Side armor skirts were used on German vehicles to protect the sides of the hull and the running gear against anti-tank rifles and shaped-charge ammunition. On the StuG.IV, an assault gun on the chassis of a medium tank, the skirts were hung on brackets along the sides. In practice parts of the plates were often missing, bent or shot away, which gives a model an authentic combat look.
Separate the thin photo-etched plates and their hangers from the fret and clean them up. The pivot mounting lets the skirts be angled, so plan their position in advance. Bond them with super glue, and the individual plates can be bent slightly or given a hint of damage for a realistic effect. Apply a base coat before painting; the skirts will take a strong patina, rust and paint wear.
The accessory does not hold the model itself, glue or paints. It is intended for completing a kit you already have.
