Decals 1:35 German tanks in Italy, the fifth set is aimed at self-propelled and escort equipment: the Grille, the Marder and the StuG IV.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of markings in 1:35 scale which, unlike the sister sets devoted to tanks, concentrates on self-propelled guns and tank destroyers on the Italian front: the Grille, Marder and StuG IV types. There are no models in the package; the decals complete vehicles that are already built with tactical numbers and unit insignia.
These are machines that came about from the need to get a heavy weapon onto a tracked chassis quickly and cheaply. The Marder was an improvised tank destroyer with an anti-tank gun in an open superstructure on an older chassis, the Grille carried a heavy infantry gun for infantry support, and the StuG IV came about by joining the proven assault superstructure with the 7.5 cm StuK 40 gun to the chassis of the PzKpfw IV. In the Italian mountains and valleys these machines were often worth more than the tanks themselves, because fire support had to be brought even to places where there was no room to maneuver.
Open superstructures and irregular shapes mean fewer flat surfaces than you are used to on tanks. Choose areas without rivets and welds for the markings, trim a decal closely and let it dry out properly after application before you start on the patina. Then apply the dust and mud from the top down; on vehicles with no roof the dirt settled inside the fighting compartment as well, which is a detail that adds a great deal to a scene.
