A decal set for figures in 1:35 scale focused on the insignia of the uniforms worn by the German anti-aircraft units (Flak) during the Second World War. It is not a set of figures or a kit: in the package there is a sheet of decals, which is applied only to a finished figure that is built and painted. The series is divided into several separately sold parts and this is part 1.
Check exactly what the sheet carries, in what quantity and how the individual parts of the series differ against the illustration on the packaging.
In 1:35 scale the insignia on a uniform measures a few millimeters. Only a few people can paint it so that the shapes and edges stay legible, and a single movement of the hand ruins the work. A decal gives crisp printing without the risk, and thanks to it a figure looks finished even close up or in a photograph taken with a macro lens.
Decals hold only on a smooth, glossy surface. So first coat the painted figure with gloss varnish and let it dry out properly: a matte base is the most common cause of a silvery veil being visible under the edge of the film. Cut the design out as close to the printing as possible, soak it in lukewarm water and after a few seconds slide it off the paper backing into place. Draw the excess water off with the corner of a paper towel and do not move the decal any more.
A uniform is not a flat area: the sleeve, the collar and the shoulder straps are all curved and wrinkled. That is why a softener pays off with figures. It is brushed onto the laid decal and left to work for a while without your touching it; the film relaxes, follows the shape and sucks itself even into engraved folds. If it wrinkles in the meantime, that is in order, as it smooths out once dry. At the end, unify the whole figure with matte varnish, which hides the edge of the carrier film completely.
The package contains decals only. Figures, paints, varnish and softener are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
