A set of 25 German Model 43 stick hand grenades with a fragmentation sleeve, in 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The stick hand grenade was a typical German infantry weapon of both world wars. The wooden handle allowed the grenade to be thrown considerably further than a ball-shaped design and at the same time kept it from rolling down a slope. The Model 43 was a later, simplified form of the weapon: the igniter mechanism moved to the head, so the handle could be made faster and with less labor.
The fragmentation sleeve given in the name of the set was a grooved steel ring that slipped over the head of the grenade. On its own, a thin-walled grenade acted mainly by blast; with the sleeve fitted it became a weapon with a fragmentation effect, which soldiers used from cover, because the fragments flew further.
The package holds 25 grenades in 1:35 scale. That number is enough to equip a whole group of figures and to fill out a diorama scene where grenades appear behind belts, in open crates, in a trench or dropped on the ground. The parts are small; at this scale a grenade measures about one centimeter.
Cut the surplus material off with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder gently; with parts this small, work over a tray so that a lost piece can be found. Wash and degrease them before painting. Choose the glue according to the material of the parts; the exact procedure is given in the manufacturer's instructions. The handles suit a light wood tone, the heads a darker field shade and the fitted sleeve a dark steel; a final gentle highlighting of the edges of the grooving brings the grenades to life nicely.
Figures, kits, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
