Three manhole covers in 1:35 scale from the workshop of the Ukrainian brand Spalah, printed from photopolymer resin. The cover has an anti-slip pattern and the rim of the frame picked out, so that once set into the base it looks like a real manhole and not like a glued-on ring with a texture.
Unlike covers with a pronounced national pattern, this set is kept more general and will serve wherever you do not want to determine the country or the period. It finds a use by a parked vehicle in the middle of a crossroads, in factory grounds and on the sidewalk in front of an entrance. At the same time a manhole often explains why a figure is standing in precisely the place where it stands. Three covers will last for several projects, because on one base you will usually use only one.
Lay the casting on the base, draw round it and take the material out underneath until the cover drops in level. Rather level an uneven edge with filler than with a thicker coat of paint. The base is a gray-black tone, onto which come dots of rust and fine smears of oil. At the end unify the surface with a matte varnish, because gloss would spoil the illusion of cast iron.
The castings come raw, that is without paint and without glue.
