1:35 House corner N°5 base

What it is

A finished diorama base in 1:35 scale with the corner of a house. The corner divides the area into two sides and gives the scene both a background and depth: hardware and figures can be placed in front of the wall, in the shadow behind the corner or in the passage between the two sides. A corner of a building is rewarding precisely because it offers two different views over a small area and the viewer takes the scene in from several sides.

Where it is useful

• A city or village scene with an armored vehicle, a car or a motorcycle
• A small group of figures by the wall, a patrol or a halt at a street corner
• A separate base under a single figure, where the wall forms the background

The base can be set into a larger whole, or left as a self-contained scene in which the edge of the base forms the frame of the entire display.

Painting tips

Before painting, clean and degrease the surface and carefully sand down small flash and unevenness. First spray a base that evens out how much the surface absorbs, then spray the masonry faces with a darker and a lighter tone, so that the individual bricks or the plaster do not look like one flat area of color. A glaze will flow into the joints and bring them out, and a dry brush will then draw the edges out. Suggest dust and deposits at the foot of the wall with pigment and take them off gradually toward the top, otherwise the scene will turn gray.
