An injection-molded plastic kit of the Israeli M109A2 self-propelled howitzer in the Rochev version, in 1:35 scale from the manufacturer AFV Club. The package contains plastic parts, a photo-etched sheet for the carriers and the details of the hull, vinyl tracks and a range of Israeli specifics — ammunition crates, jerrycans and other stowed equipment. The model captures the characteristic modifications of Israeli service.
The M109 is an American self-propelled howitzer of 155 mm caliber on a tracked chassis with a rotating turret. The Israel Defense Forces used the machine widely; the Rochev version carried modifications such as the early Israeli type of muzzle brake and front stowage baskets on the turret. Howitzers of this type were deployed among other places in Lebanon in 1982. They combine the firepower of field artillery with the mobility of a tracked carrier.
Assemble the running gear and the lower hull first, and close up the superstructure and the turret only afterwards — fine-tune the rich external equipment only once the basic painting is done. Glue the plastic with liquid cement and bend the photo-etched baskets over a metal ruler. Apply a primer, spray the Israeli desert shade with an airbrush and bring the surfaces alive with filters. Dust and sand on the running gear and the fenders are created with pigments and light washes.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
