This set of photo-etched metal parts from the Czech manufacturer Eduard serves for finishing out a plastic model of the German tank destroyer Jagdpanther in the production version Ausf. G1 in 1:35 scale. It is neither a kit nor a finished model but an accessory to a base kit. Photo-etched metal can replace plastic where the material is supposed to be thin — on grilles, brackets, eyes and sheet-metal parts whose thickness an injection mold can never render faithfully.
The Jagdpanther was a German tank destroyer built on the running gear of the medium tank Panther. Instead of a rotating turret it carried a fixed, steeply sloped superstructure into which an 88 mm Pak 43/3 gun with a long barrel was built. The combination of a low silhouette, sloped armor and a powerful weapon made it one of the technically most interesting vehicles of its category. The Ausf. G1 version belongs to the earlier production series and differs from the later G2 in details of the superstructure, the arrangement of the hatches and the form of some external parts — and it is exactly these differences that decide which set fits a model.
Separate the parts with a scalpel on a hard surface and make the bends in a bending tool or between razor blades. Apply superglue in a minimal amount with a pin, as the excess turns white and shows on a dark color. Degrease the metal and spray it with a primer, and only then paint. A patina of dust and mud suits an armored vehicle — the photo-etched grilles and brackets will stand out once they have been accentuated with a thin wash that flows into the shadows.
The set is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a model on its own. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
