A specialized set of photo-etched parts from the Czech manufacturer Eduard, focused on the side armor skirts, in German Schürzen, for a model of the German tank destroyer Jagdpanther in the Ausf. G1 version in 1:35 scale. It is neither a kit nor a finished model but an accessory to a base kit. Unlike a general-purpose detail set, this item deals with a single assembly — the Schürzen and their mounting.
In reality the Schürzen were thin sheets hung on the sides of the vehicle. Injected plastic can never make them thin enough — on a finished model they then look like planks. Photo-etched metal has a thickness close to the scale one and can moreover be shaped: the skirts can be bent, dented or partly taken off, which with this class of vehicle is a common way of lending a model the credibility of wear in service.
The Jagdpanther was a tank destroyer built on the running gear of the medium tank Panther, with a fixed sloped superstructure and an 88 mm Pak 43/3 gun. The Ausf. G1 version belongs to the earlier production series and differs from the later G2 in details of the superstructure and of the external parts. The mounting of the Schürzen is one of the places where the form differs between the series, which is why the set is tied to this particular version.
Separate the parts with a scalpel on a hard surface and bend them in a bending tool or between razor blades. Deform the skirts carefully with a round tool over a soft pad, while the parts are still loose. They are glued with superglue in a minimal amount; degrease the metal and spray it with a primer before painting. Once painted, a thin wash into the gaps and a dry brush on the edges will help.
The set is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a model on its own. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
