Model Scene 1:35 Maple Green

Laser-cut model foliage from the manufacturer Model Scene in a recommended scale of 1:35. It is not a finished tree and not a kit — it is a loose scenery material, thousands of tiny leaves cut into the shape of a maple leaf in summer green. Laser cutting gives the leaf a sharp, readable lobed outline that is recognizable at a glance in 1:35 scale; compared with crushed foam or scatter it looks incomparably more convincing, because the viewer really does see an individual leaf.

Use

• Leaf litter on the ground — sprinkled under trees, at the foot of walls, into ditches and the corners of a yard
• Fallen leaves on roofs, in gutters and on window sills
• Leaves caught on vehicles — on engine decks, tarpaulins, fenders, in the bed of a truck
• Foliage for a tree you have made yourself — attached to a wire or moss armature
• Filling out bushes and undergrowth where a readable leaf shape is missing

Tips for working it

On the ground, sprinkle the leaves through a fine sieve so that an irregular layer builds up, and fix them with thinned PVA glue or with matte medium applied from a sprayer — a drop of glue on a leaf would end up glossy. Place individual leaves in exposed spots with tweezers and glue them with a tiny amount of cyanoacrylate. When foliating a tree, put the glue on the twigs, sprinkle the leaves from above and then shake the excess off. You will raise the realism by mixing one species with a little of another and with a few leaves in a different shade — in nature there is never a carpet of a single color.
