An injection-molded plastic kit of the South Korean K1 (Type 88) main battle tank in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter. The model captures the modern angular turret with wedge-shaped frontal armor and the low hull on hydropneumatic suspension. According to the manufacturer the box contains plastic parts, decals and assembly instructions for building this less usual subject.
The K1, also designated the Type 88, is the main battle tank of the South Korean army, which entered series production in the middle of the 1980s. It was developed with the technical help of American industry and in design it draws on experience with the M1 Abrams tank. It carries a 105 mm gun with a computerized fire control system, composite armor and a hybrid hydropneumatic and torsion bar suspension that makes it possible to tilt the hull. The real vehicle is characterized by its low, angular silhouette and modern sensors.
Work from the running gear and then finish the hull and the turret. Use thin cement for plastic, apply a primer before painting and spray the paints with an airbrush. For Korean camouflage schemes, accurate masking of the transitions works well; you bring out the detail with dark washes and fine dust pigments on the running gear. Emphasize the sharp edges of the turret with a lighter dry brush.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
