The second Star Decals set for M4A3E8 Shermans of the Korean War brings markings that the name ties to the 64th Tank Bn and the 15th Inf. Reg. Part of the theme is the painted tiger face, the feature that made American tanks in Korea famous. The set is in 1:35 scale and it is meant for a model that is already built and sprayed.
The M4A3E8, nicknamed the Easy Eight, was a late version of the Sherman with HVSS suspension, wider tracks and a 76 mm gun. It reached Korea as a proven and available type and became the most numerous American tank of the conflict of 1950 to 1953 there. The painted tiger faces on the front of the hull appeared on tank battalions supporting the infantry and every machine was painted a little differently, so you will practically never find two identical tanks. That is exactly why this theme has long been popular with modelers.
A tiger face will only seat on a smooth base. Sand the front of the hull down in advance, even the spray out and give the area a coat of gloss varnish, so that the design does not wrinkle on an intricate surface. Once it has dried, even the whole model out with a matte varnish. Korean tanks tended to be dusty and scuffed, so weathering makes sense with this theme, but run it so that the design stays legible. The particular way of working with the decals is given in the instructions on the packaging.
The set holds decals. The kit and the paints are not included in the package.
