A diorama surface tailored to the Kübelwagen light off-road vehicle. A ready display solves the most common problem of hardware modelers: a model on its own without surroundings looks like an exhibit on a bench, whereas on terrain it gains scale, weight and a story at once.
The Kübelwagen was a German light off-road car based on the design of the people's car. It came about as a simple, light and easily repairable machine with rear-wheel drive, which thanks to its low weight managed even where heavier vehicles got stuck. That lightness matters for the scene: the vehicle does not sink far into soft terrain, so deep ruts would look untrue in the display.
First set the vehicle up dry and find the position in which all four wheels touch the ground. Only then paint. Keep the terrain in warmer earth tones, so that the cooler shade of the bodywork stands out. The transition between the tire and the ground is the most important place in the whole display; add fine pigment and a few blades of grass to it, so that the wheel looks sunk in rather than set on top. Apply the dust on the lower areas of the vehicle in the same shade as on the terrain, otherwise the scene will not look whole.
The vehicle model is sold separately and the base comes unpainted; you choose the paints and the accessories according to your own intention.
