An accessory set for modelers who build the American half-track vehicles M2, M3 or M16. It contains the wheels of the front axle and a spare. The qualifier weighted refers to a tire with a bowed contact patch, and type 3 is the third tread pattern in the range of these accessories.
The M16 Multiple Gun Motor Carriage came about by setting a rotating Maxson mount with four 12.7 mm heavy machine guns on the bed of a half-track. The original task was to defend columns against attacks from low altitude. By 1944, however, the Luftwaffe no longer flew over the front as much, and so the four-barreled battery was lowered toward the ground. Against the edges of woods, against the windows of houses and against infantry in the open it had a devastating effect and earned the nickname meat chopper. In the fighting in the Ardennes and years later in Korea it was among the most feared weapons a company could meet on its flank.
Collectors of American armored equipment and builders of combat scenes for whom the way the rubber touches the surface matters too. After degreasing and painting, a light dusting with pigment helps, which visually ties the wheel to the ground beneath it.
