1:35 M3 Stuart is a masking set for the road wheels of the American light tank. It covers the wheel rims so the rubber tire bands can be sprayed on their own and cleanly.

A set of masks for painting the road wheels of the American M3 Stuart light tank in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit or a replacement part, but an aid for the painting stage: the mask seats on the wheel rim, you spray the tire band in a dark shade and once it is lifted a sharp concentric border is left. The set is cut for the Stuart kit from Tamiya.
The Stuart is a light tank and that shows in its running gear at first glance. The suspension consists of external bogies with vertical volute springs; a pair of small-diameter road wheels sits on each bogie with a return roller above it. There are therefore more wheels than on medium tanks and they are markedly smaller — in 1:35 scale they are rings on which a hand-drawn brush line has practically no chance of coming out evenly. The second peculiarity is the rear idler wheel set low, so that on the M3 it touches the ground and carries part of the weight; it therefore looks like another road wheel and when painting it is easy either to forget it or, conversely, to assign it a mask that does not belong to it. The drive sprocket is at the front and has no tire band.
On wheels of this diameter a magnifier is more a necessity than a luxury. A head magnifier works well, because it leaves both hands free for tweezers and a skewer. Take the mask off the sheet with a needle or the point of a scalpel, transfer it with tweezers and seat it with a blunt toothpick — the tip of the tweezers would leave a mark on the soft surface of the mask. Since there are many wheels, divide the work into batches: spike the wheels on skewers pushed into polystyrene, line them up in a row and mask them one after another, so you need not run back and forth. Press the edges of the masks down once more before spraying; at small diameters it is the corner of a mask that lifts most easily. Apply the paint in several light coats; one heavy coat will bleed under the edge of the mask and ruin a small wheel completely.
