A resin set of accessories in 1:35 scale meant for a model of the American M5A1 Stuart light tank. It is not a kit of the tank but a set of parts with which you add stowed cargo and crew equipment to a finished model. It is exactly this accumulation of personal belongings, tarpaulins and crates that turns a cleanly molded model into a vehicle that looks as if it really drives in the field.
The real subject
The M5A1 was a development branch of the American Stuart light tank, powered by a pair of automobile engines. It served mainly for reconnaissance, covering flanks and escort, because against heavier enemy tanks its armament was no longer enough. It was used by the American army and by the Allies and was committed in Western Europe, in the Mediterranean and in the Pacific. Crews of light tanks commonly lashed their own equipment, jerrycans, tarpaulins and spare parts onto the hull and the sides, because the space inside was cramped.
Building and painting tips
First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water so that the mold release disappears. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw, level the surface and sand with respiratory protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Lay the accessories out dry first and look for the places where a crew would really have put them, that is on the fenders, the rear plate and the sides of the turret. It pays to paint them separately from the hull and to install them only after the base color, otherwise it is hard to get a brush underneath them. At the end tie everything together with a dark wash and dust pigments, so that the accessories do not look like a foreign body stuck on.
