The kit captures the upgraded form of the Soviet T-55 medium tank designated AD1, in 1:35 scale. It is made by the Ukrainian brand UM. The package contains plastic parts to be assembled; the model is neither glued nor painted. The 1:35 scale is the most widespread for ground vehicles, so the finished tank is easily completed with figures and scenic accessories from other manufacturers.
The T-55 is a medium tank of the postwar generation that followed on from the T-54 type and became one of the most widespread tanks of all. Its characteristic features are the low cast hemispherical turret, a 100 mm gun and a diesel engine housed in the rear of the hull. The design was continuously upgraded throughout production and after it ended; new instruments, protective features and modifications to the power pack were added. Designations with the letter D belong to the later upgrades of this range.
Start with the running gear. Assemble and glue the wheels in one go so that they all sit on a common plane, otherwise the track will not fit. Fit the tracks and let them settle dry, and only then fix them for good, suggesting the sag between the return rollers if appropriate. Check the turret dry, including the seating of the gun, and fill the gaps with filler, because a cast surface is hard to sand. The cast structure of the turret can be suggested by stippling with a thick paint or by light working with a solvent. Use a primer for the base, apply the paint with an airbrush and bring the shade to life by lightening the upper surfaces. Build the weathering with a wash into the welds and hatches and with pigments on the track runs and the lower hull.
