MiniArt 1:35 Metal Bridge

This set is a plastic diorama accessory from the Ukrainian maker MiniArt in 1:35 scale: it is not a model of a vehicle but a structural element of a scene. It holds injection-molded parts of a steel bridge made up of girders (I-beams) and railings; the individual sections can be joined to create a bridge of the length needed. The parts are molded in gray plastic with riveting and the texture of steel indicated.

What the accessory is for

The bridge will give a diorama a dramatic crossing, over a stream, a river, a ditch or a ravine, and will become the natural center of the composition, across which equipment and figures pass. The modular sections make it possible to adapt the length and the look to the space of the scene. The bridge can be treated as an intact crossing or, on the contrary, as a partly damaged structure with traces of fighting, which makes it a strong narrative element of the whole scene.

Building and painting tips

• Glue the sections with liquid cement for plastic and let them cure properly for the sake of the bridge's rigidity.
• Apply a primer before painting; pick the steel out in a metallic shade and in shades of rust.
• Rust, runs and deposits are finished with washes, pigments and the salt technique.
• The contact surfaces where equipment runs can be brought out with a polished metallic sheen.
