The MG08 Muzzle Boosters With Flash Disk set by Copper State Models is a modeling accessory for 1:35 scale. It replaces the muzzle of the barrel of an MG08 machine gun with a more accurate casting supplemented by a circular disk. The set is added to figures, to vehicles with machine gun armament or to diorama arrangements where the weapon is seen from close up.
The MG08 was a German heavy machine gun derived from the Maxim design, recognizable by the massive water jacket of its barrel. At the muzzle it carried a booster that used part of the escaping gases to help the action work, and a circular disk limiting the dazzling of the crew was fitted to it. On a model it is a small but pronounced element at the very end of the jacket, that is in a place that an injection mold can manage only as a blunt cylinder with no opening. A resin casting renders this shape more faithfully and with an open muzzle.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with dish soap and separate them from the casting block with a new blade over a mat, as the parts are small and easily spring away. Do the sanding wet and with respiratory protection. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue applied with the tip of a piece of wire. Before fitting, check that the diameter of the booster matches the barrel jacket of your kit, and if need be carefully widen the hole with a micro drill. Painting: a dark steel shade, with the edges brought out with a dry brush and the jacket unified with a dark wash.
