A resin figure from the original work of Alternity Miniatures. The brand keeps to fantastic and post-apocalyptic subjects of its own, so reaching for it means getting something other than another soldier in the line. At the same time the 1:35 scale is practically the most universal: the figure goes together with models of equipment as well as with diorama accessories of the same format.
Resin manages a sharper relief than injected plastic, which tells on the small details and on the expression of the face. The casting comes with casting blocks, and on some surfaces there tends to be a fine parting line left by the mold.
Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry properly, which removes the mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks away with a saw, sand the surfaces down wet and protect your breathing while doing it. Try the fitting together dry before gluing, then glue the joints with super glue and fill the gaps with filler. A thin primer unifies the surface and makes the remaining imperfections visible, which are better fine-tuned now than after painting. Paint the face and any exposed areas of skin first, slowly and in thin layers. Build the hair on a darker base and suggest the strands with the highlight, not the individual hairs. The clothing holds together better with a limited palette, and the contrast is better built on lightness than on a quantity of colors. Finally a wash into the folds, a gentle dry brush on the edges, matte varnish and a pinch of pigment where the figure would really get dirty.
The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
