Tamiya 1:35 Modern French Leclerc 2 Photo-Etched Parts is a set of photo-etched metal parts for refining a model of the French Leclerc series 2 tank in 1:35 scale. It is an accessory for a kit, not a standalone model.

A set of parts etched from thin metal sheet, intended for finishing off a plastic model of the French Leclerc main battle tank in the series 2 version, 1:35 scale. The set does not form a model on its own — it assumes that you already have the base kit and replaces selected plastic parts on it with metal ones. The manufacturer of the set is the Japanese company Tamiya.
A modern armored vehicle carries a great deal of thin sheet metal: covers, meshes, cladding and small brackets. An injection mold cannot cast them at scale thickness, so a plastic part looks simplified and the edges are rounded. Photo-etched metal has a thickness in tenths of a millimeter, perforated areas are genuinely open and the outline of the vehicle gains a crispness that plastic will not offer. The difference is seen best from above, that is from the view from which a model in a display case is looked at most often.
Cut the parts off the fret with a scalpel against a hard surface, never break them out. Make the bends in a photo-etch bending tool or between two razor blades and finish them in a single movement; repeated bending fatigues the metal and the part cracks. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue applied on the tip of a wire, so that the excess does not flood the detail; a stronger joint is given by tin solder. Degrease the metal with alcohol before painting and go over it with a base color intended for metal — without it the shade will rub off the edges during handling alone. Apply weathering only onto a matured clear coat.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted and serves to finish off a plastic model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
