An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet Object 450 medium tank in 1:35 scale from the manufacturer Trumpeter. With military vehicles 1:35 scale is the standard: it carries enough detail for a worked-out running gear, the tools on the hull and the external equipment, and at the same time it is easy to work with.
The Object designation with a number is the internal development index of the Soviet design bureaus. It was carried by equipment at the project, prototype or pre-production stage, that is machines that either reached army type designations only later under a different name or never entered service at all. Postwar Soviet medium tank development aimed at a low silhouette, cast rounded turrets, torsion bar suspension and the smallest possible internal volume; this machine belongs thematically to exactly that development line. Details of the armament, the powerplant and the dating of this design differ between sources for project types, so check them in specialist literature before the build.
Finish the running gear and the inner part of the hull before you close the whole thing up, because the wheels and the underside cannot be reached afterward. Spray the tracks with their base color separately and fit them only once the running gear is painted. Welds and the cast surfaces of the turret can be picked out with a texture of dissolved plastic or filler laid on with a hard brush, but with prototype vehicles go easy. Lead the painting through a primer and lighten the base shade on the upper surfaces. Build the weathering up in layers: first a dark wash into the engraved lines and around the rivets, then a dry brush on the edges and finally dust and mud pigments from the running gear upward. On prototypes that covered only trial kilometers, restrained wear makes sense rather than a heavily battered front-line machine.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
