About product

Panzerjäger I — 1:35, Dragon

An injection-molded plastic kit of the early German tank destroyer Panzerjäger I in 1:35 scale from Dragon. The model captures the improvised anti-tank vehicle that came about by mounting a captured Czechoslovak 4.7 cm gun on the disarmed chassis of the light tank Panzer I. The box is presented as a Smart Kit with photo-etched parts and individual (link-by-link) tracks, a well detailed gun with movable elevation and a detailed fighting compartment; it contains decals for several forms. Check the particular number of parts and marking options against the manufacturer's information.

The real subject

The Panzerjäger I was the first German tracked tank destroyer. It appeared at the beginning of the Second World War, when it turned out that the chassis of the aging Panzer I could be used as a carrier for a more effective gun. The proven 4.7 cm anti-tank gun of Czech origin was built into an open armored superstructure with a front and side shields. The Germans used the vehicle in the campaign in the west in 1940 and later in North Africa and on the Eastern Front. Its weakness was the tall and only lightly armored superstructure, which gave the crew limited protection; its advantage, on the other hand, was that it was quick to produce and readily available.

Building and painting tips

Assemble and paint the running gear and the lower hull before you close them up with the superstructure. Glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic and attach the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate. The open superstructure and the gun allow a view inside, so paint and highlight the interior and the gun breech carefully. After the base coat (typically early German gray) and a gloss coat under the decals, bring out the detail with a wash and add dust and mud with pigments.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of German equipment of the early Second World War
  • Modelers with a liking for improvised tank destroyers
  • Those interested in derivatives of the Panzer I chassis
  • Lovers of interior painting and weathering

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
