1:32 AIM-9D Sidewinder is an Eduard resin accessory set with an air-to-air guided missile in 1:32 scale. It serves to arm a model of an aircraft and is not an aircraft kit itself.
Responsibility details are not available.
Armament tends to be the weak point of aircraft models, one the builder notices only on looking closely. Injection-molded missiles from the box tend to have a parting line running right across the cylindrical body, soft edges on the fins and an indistinct seeker head. A resin casting, by contrast, has no parting line and carries crisper detail. This set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard belongs to the resin accessory range, not among photo-etched sets, masks or combined sets. It is a specific accessory for a model, not an aircraft kit, and it assumes that you already have the base model.
The AIM-9 Sidewinder is an American short-range air-to-air guided missile with infrared homing onto a heat source. The AIM-9D version belongs to the early generations of the family and is characterized by a slender body, a cruciform arrangement of fins and a conical seeker head. Missiles of this family appear often in modeling, because they were carried on a great many types, but the individual versions differ from one another in the shape of the head and the fins, so swapping versions shows.
First wash the resin castings in lukewarm water with a little detergent to remove the remains of the mold release agent. Without that the paint will not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine-toothed saw rather than with nippers, which shatter resin. Use a respirator when sanding and sand wet if you can, as resin dust must not be inhaled. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, not with cement for plastic. Apply a primer before painting. It is best to paint the missile apart from the model and to fit it at the very end, so that the fins are not broken during handling.
The set is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a model in its own right. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
