An accessory set of photo-etched parts in thin metal sheet for a model of the Chinese ZTZ-99B main battle tank in 1:35 scale. The designation Basic means that this is a basic set covering the main external details of the hull and the turret. It is not a kit of the tank but a set of parts with which you supplement a plastic model or replace those of its parts whose thickness, converted to full size, would correspond to sheet several centimeters thick.
The ZTZ-99 is a Chinese third-generation main battle tank which entered service with the People's Liberation Army around the turn of the millennium. It carries a 125 mm smoothbore gun with an autoloader, a welded turret with modular armor and a modern fire control system. The ZTZ-99B version is a later upgrade of this family with further changes to protection and equipment. Characteristic of it are the angular shapes of the turret and the blocks of add-on armor, that is precisely the places where the difference between a plastic and a photo-etched part shows most.
Cut the photo-etched parts off the fret with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, and never break them out. Make the bends in a bending tool or between two blades, so that the edge is straight. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue applied with the tip of a wire, and on larger areas a slower-setting variant helps, because it gives time to adjust the position. A primer is necessary before painting, because paint does not hold on bare metal. The fenders and the covers can be bent or torn slightly before being glued on, so as to suggest damage from use.
This is an accessory set, not a kit of the tank. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
