Plastic barrels and crutches 1:35 is a small diorama set from Firma49. It is neither a model nor a vehicle kit but an accessory that fills a scene with ordinary civilian objects.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a diorama accessory, not a model. According to its name the set contains plastic barrels and crutches in 1:35 scale, two entirely ordinary objects that create the impression of a lived-in, used setting in a model scene at once. Firma49 makes a whole range of similar small items, from jerrycans and cable spools through benches and standing lamps to a handcart and a wheelchair, so barrels and crutches fit into a larger world of equipment. The same set is also made in 1:48 and 1:72 scales.
An empty stretch of a diorama looks lifeless. Barrels belong to stores, yards, workshops, fueling points and rear areas, while crutches tell a story at once and suit figures at an aid post or in a civilian scene. 1:35 is the most widespread size for military vehicles and figures, so the accessory can be combined with practically anything of that kind. The barrels can be set out, laid on their side, stacked together or partly sunk into the terrain.
First rid the parts of remnants and flash, run fine sandpaper over any parting lines and degrease the surface. Apply a thin coat of primer before painting, and then acrylic paint from an airbrush or a brush is enough. Real plastic barrels tend to have a smooth, slightly glossy surface, so choose a semi-matte rather than a fully flat final varnish. A dark wash into the pressings and the hoops, light chipping of the edges with a dry brush and a few stains of rust or spilled liquid around the closures help toward credibility. The crutches are a small and delicate part, so handle them carefully and lay the paint on in thin coats so that the detail is not lost.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
