About product

A figure of a German soldier, Poland 1944, in 1:35 scale (Rado Miniatures)

A resin figure in 1:35 scale from the Poland 1944 Under Fire range by Rado Miniatures. According to the name it is a soldier with the rank of Schütze, that is a private rifleman, assigned to the 5th SS Panzer Division Wiking, during the fighting in Poland in 1944. It is neither a vehicle model nor a scene in its own right, but an accessory for models of equipment and for dioramas in the same scale. According to the name it is a single figure.

What the figure brings to a model

A vehicle model standing alone in a display case gives the viewer neither scale nor a story. A single figure beside the hull solves both: it is immediately clear how large the machine really is, where the front of the scene lies and what the eye should take in first. Figures in this scale can moreover be used on their own, as practice in painting a uniform and a face, where the detail is measured in tenths of a millimeter. On resin castings the crispness of the folds, the buckles and the straps is considerably higher than on injected plastic, which makes painting the shadows and transitions much easier.

Building and painting tips

First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water so that no mold release agent is left on the surface. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw, never break them off, and sand the area wet with respiratory protection. Reinforce the joints of the arms and the head with a short wire pin, as super glue on its own is fragile on a figure. Paint only after a primer has been sprayed on, otherwise the paint will not hold on smooth resin. Work from the base tone toward the lightened areas and handle the shadows with a thin glaze rather than with black paint. At the end, tie the whole figure together with a matte varnish; gloss on cloth and fabric looks false. For areas this small a brush is more practical than an airbrush.

Who the figure is for

  • Builders of dioramas and vignettes in 1:35 scale
  • Modelers of Second World War equipment
  • Anyone interested in painting figures and working with fine detail
  • Those who want to give a finished vehicle model scale and a story

The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted, as a resin casting. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

According to the name it is a single figure.

No. It is a stand-alone figure meant to be added to models of equipment and to dioramas in 1:35 scale.

Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water, cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw and sand the area wet with respiratory protection. It is bonded with super glue, and it is a good idea to reinforce the joints with a wire pin.

Yes. On smooth resin, paint holds badly without a primer and rubs off during handling.
