A fence is one of the most effective elements on a diorama: it marks out a plot, separates a yard from the street and hides the break between the surface of the base and the background. At the same time it serves as a guide to scale, because the viewer immediately judges the size of the figures and the vehicles from the height of the fence. Beside a road or along a garden it can lead the eye to the main motif of a scene without overpowering it.
This is a board fence with a decorated profile along the top edge, that is the kind of fence that suits houses, gardens and farm buildings. Check the dimensions, the number of parts and the material against the manufacturer's part number PL3-001 before ordering; the choice of glue and tools follows from the material.
Try the placement dry and adjust the length with a tool suited to the material; make the cut a little away from the part and then sand the edge. Choose the glue according to the material as well, as ordinary plastic kit cement only bonds polystyrene. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. A base wood shade, a dark glaze into the gaps between the boards and finally a lighter tone from a dry brush to bring out the wood grain all prove themselves. Apply an earth shade at the foot of the fence, which ties it into the terrain.
