A decal set from Star Decals meant for a model of the light tank PzKpfw I Ausf A. The name gives both the geographical and the chronological span, Poland, Norway and the Eastern Front between 1939 and 1945, which makes it one of the broadest sets in theme for this type. It is a modeling accessory, not a kit.
The PzKpfw I Ausf A was a two-man light tank armed only with machine guns and powered by an air-cooled flat engine. It can be told from the later Ausf B version by its shorter hull and the different arrangement of the running gear and the cooling openings. It came about above all as a training and transitional type and by 1939 it was already obsolete against the opponents of the day. Even so it appeared in the Polish campaign and in Norway, where Panzer-Abteilung z.b.V. 40 served, and on the Eastern Front it saw out its days on training, security and rear-area tasks or served as a chassis for conversions.
The vehicle is small, so the markings are small too and precision decides matters. Concentrate on getting a decal to meet the edges of the armor plates exactly. On a dark gray base it works well to lay the designs onto a gloss interlayer and to flatten the whole model down in one go.
