A resin set of wheels in 1:35 scale for the RG-31 mine-resistant armored car in the Mk5 version. The set is not a model of the vehicle, it is an exchange of wheels on a kit already built. The version designation matters here: for the older form of the RG-31 the manufacturer makes a separate set, the two differ and are not interchangeable; compare the form against the instructions.
The RG-31 is a mine-resistant armored car of South African origin with an angled lower hull that deflects the blast away from the crew compartment. The Mk5 version is a later and heavier form of this range, which was given a modified chassis. The running gear with off-road tires of large diameter makes up a striking part of the silhouette of the vehicle, and the difference between the versions shows most on the wheels. A model built with wheels from another version therefore looks inconsistent, even if the rest of the build is careful.
Wash the castings in warm water with dish soap, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and level the mating surfaces. Before gluing with super glue, check the stance of the model on a flat board, so that all the wheels touch the base. Paint the tire a very dark gray with a brown cast, lift the edges of the tread with a dry brush and add dust pigment in the grooves. Paint the disc separately, as on vehicles of this class it tends to be in the shade of the body. Keep the finish rather restrained and apply it from below, fading it gradually toward the upper part of the wheel.
This is a resin accessory, not a complete kit. The wheels are supplied unpainted; paints, glue and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
