An injection-molded plastic kit of the German Rheintochter R-1 anti-aircraft guided missile in 1:35 scale from Amusing Hobby. The model captures the missile on its launcher and is a striking subject from the field of experimental rocketry at the end of the Second World War. The set makes it possible to build the missile and the launching ramp as a single diorama unit.
The Rheintochter was a German anti-aircraft guided missile developed at the end of the Second World War. The multi-stage solid-fuel rocket was meant to destroy Allied bomber formations at high altitude. Trials of the R-1 version ran from 1943, but the project never reached combat readiness and was terminated. The name Rheintochter, meaning daughter of the Rhine, refers to figures from Wagner's operatic tetralogy. The missile is among the pioneering, if unfinished, attempts at guided air defense.
Assemble the launching ramp and the missile; take care to set the missile vertically on the ramp. Glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic. Apply a primer and choose one of the period schemes, for example the bare metal look of the missile, or a two-tone camouflage with the ramp in the color of the base coat. A fine wash will accentuate the panel lines of the missile, and pigments will add realistic dust to the ramp and the base. The contrast between the glossy body of the missile and the matte ramp is striking too.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
