1:35 ChTZ S-60 Stalinetz is a plastic kit of the Soviet crawler tractor of the 1930s, which was used in agriculture and as an artillery tractor, from Thunder Model.
Responsibility details are not available.
The kit covers the Soviet S-60 crawler tractor, known at the time as the Stalinets, from the Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant. It is an injection-molded plastic kit that adds to the Thunder Model range devoted to tractors, prime movers and support vehicles. The model is rewarding as a piece in its own right in a display case as well as the centerpiece of a diorama, where it goes well with artillery, trucks and figures.
The S-60 was created in the 1930s and its design was based on an American original whose production the Soviet Union took over. It was powered by a gasoline engine, the machine had a simple open working platform with the driver's position and a track suspension meant for heavy going. Originally it was an agricultural and construction machine, but thanks to its drawbar pull it was commonly used to move artillery equipment as well. It was later replaced in production by a diesel version.
Assemble, paint and weather the running gear and the tracks before you fit the superstructure, because they are very hard to reach later. The engine compartment and the open position are clearly visible on this subject, so careful painting and a distinction between the shades of metal, wood and canvas pay off. For the weathering, a dark wash into the recesses, fine chipping on the edges and dry pigments for mud and dust around the suspension all work well. A simple base with soil and grass does the model more good than a bare stand.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
