An injection-molded plastic model of the Soviet heavy tank JS-3M (IS-3M) in 1:35 scale from the Trumpeter brand. The kit captures the characteristic pike nose of the hull and the hemispherical cast turret in the M modernization; it holds precisely worked running gear and decals for several marking options.
The IS-3 (JS-3) was a Soviet heavy tank developed at the end of the Second World War. It first appeared in public at the victory parade in Berlin in 1945, where it surprised onlookers with its steeply sloped pike nose and its low hemispherical turret. The IS-3M version was a postwar modernization with a strengthened hull structure, a modified engine and a series of detail improvements, thanks to which the tank was still in service in the 1960s and saw action in the Middle East as well.
With a tank it pays to assemble and paint the running gear, the road wheels and the tracks before the hull is closed up. Glue the plastic parts with liquid modeling cement for plastic. Lay a primer before painting and spray the base color with an airbrush in thin layers. The rounded shapes of the cast armor reward fine shading; volume comes from emphasizing the edges with dry brushing, from dark washes in the recesses and from pigments for dust and mud effects on the lower hull and the tracks.
