The real subject

The T-54 ranks among the most widespread tanks in history and became a symbol of postwar Soviet armored equipment. The T-54A version brought the 100 mm D-10TG gun stabilized in the vertical plane and fitted with a fume extractor, which markedly improved accuracy of fire on the move. Changes to the engine, the air filter and other internal systems went with it. The tank served for decades in armies all over the world and became the basis for the later T-55 as well.

Building and painting tips

Assemble the running gear, the large road wheels and the tracks first, while the hull is still accessible. Separate the parts with a sharp knife and sand the areas left by the sprue gates. Apply a primer and then the base color; Soviet vehicles typically wear a uniform dark green finish. The cast turret is rewarding for bringing out the coarse texture of the casting with dry-brushing. Emphasize the panel lines and the hatches with a wash, and add mud and dust pigments to the lower areas and the running gear for realistic weathering.
