An accessory set with the German mine designated S-mine in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit of a vehicle or a weapon but a small scenic object: a mine stowed in a box, laid beside an engineer, ready to be buried, or marked with a warning sign in the terrain of a diorama.
The S-mine, in full the Schrapnellmine, was a German mine of the Second World War made in versions designated by the year of their introduction, that is the S.Mi. 35 and the S.Mi. 44. In shape it is a short cylinder with a lid, out of which the igniter protrudes; the whole charge was buried so that only the top of the igniter or a wire stayed above the surface. For the modeler what matters above all is how the object behaves in terrain: in a diorama you usually see either the whole mine before it is laid, or only a slight detail above the ground, completed with the typical minefield markings. Sets of mines are therefore mostly used in a group rather than singly.
Choose the glue according to the material of the parts: solvent cement for plastic, cyanoacrylate for resin and metal. Cut the small parts off with a sharp scalpel over a tray with a raised edge. In color it is a simple object — a base dark gray or olive shade, the edges lightened with a dry brush and a thin wash let into the gaps between the body and the lid. Rust and an earthy pigment on the lower part of the mine will suggest that the object has been lying in terrain. If you are burying the mines in the base, plan the composition in advance so that they are visible and the scene does not look empty.
The set is supplied unpainted and is not a model on its own. Glue, paints, figures and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
