A set of cut masks for painting the wheels of the Sd. Kfz. 124 Wespe self-propelled howitzer in 1:35 scale. One sheet, prepared for the Tamiya kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Wespe self-propelled howitzer came about as a stopgap, but it proved one of the most successful German improvised artillery machines. On the lengthened chassis of the Panzer II light tank the designers seated an open superstructure with a 105 millimeter field howitzer. Production ran in 1943 and 1944 and the machines served with the artillery battalions of tank divisions on the eastern and the western front. The running gear inherited five wheels on leaf springs from the Panzer II, housed close together and distinguished from one another only by the width of the tire.
The set belongs to the stage when the underside is finished and the last step in color remains. First the running gear is assembled dry, it is checked that the wheels sit in line, and then the base color is sprayed. Only onto that are the cut-outs laid, which cover the center of the wheel. The dark shade is then applied freely over the whole surface and the film itself determines where the finish ends. It pays to spray square from above, so that the mist of paint does not get under the edge of the cut-out.
The markings of artillery battalions tend to be small on these machines and lie on the sides of the superstructure, not on the running gear, so the decals can be finished independently of the wheels. After them comes dusting of the wheel wells and the tracks, which ties the color of the wheels in with the rest of the machine. If a tire takes an impression from the tweezers during the gluing of the track, the place can be masked again and sprayed over.
A single sheet of film on which the shapes are already cut. You will not find plastic parts, paint materials or markings in the envelope.
