On armored cars the wheels are the first thing a viewer sees, and at the same time the place where injection-molded plastic simplifies the most. This replacement set covers the early wheels of the Sd.Kfz 222 in the version designated as type 3 and adds a spare wheel. The word weighted means a loaded wheel, that is, a casting with a realistically flattened contact patch and a slightly bulged sidewall: the tire looks as if a vehicle were standing on it rather than like a perfect circle. Because the individual series of wheels differed in tread pattern, the manufacturer offers several versions; this one is type 3 for early vehicles.
It is worth saying plainly which kit this is for: the set is cut for the Hobby Boss kit. The same version also exists for the kit of another manufacturer, so this detail really does matter.
The Sd.Kfz 222 was a light four-wheeled armored car used for reconnaissance. Given its weight and its use off-road, the wheels were relatively large, with a coarse off-road pattern; their profile and condition are exactly what shows most on a model.
The castings are separated from the casting block by cutting, not by snapping: on a wheel you cut around the circumference so that the remaining stub falls within the contact face, which will not be visible anyway. The rest is leveled with a file and fine abrasive paper. Before painting, wash the parts with lukewarm water and dish soap, let them dry and lay down a primer, otherwise the paint will hold poorly on a smooth casting. They are glued with cyanoacrylate. When fitting them, watch that all four flat spots point downward and parallel to the surface: a turned weighted wheel is a mistake everyone notices.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. The base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
