A road tread, not an off-road one

The set offers front wheels for the Sd.Kfz. 251 with a tread meant for a hard surface. A road pattern is smoother and more regular than a coarse off-road tread and shows at first glance on a model. The choice between them is not cosmetic: it states the setting you imagine the vehicle in, and it goes together with the way you subsequently dirty the model.

Why replace the kit wheels

The front wheels of a half-track vehicle stand outside the tracked running gear and nothing covers them. The viewer looks at them from the front and from the side, so every simplification shows on them. The replacement set brings a legible tread and a more mature tire shape, and yet it touches only two parts and does not complicate the build in any way.

Building and painting tips

• Wash and degrease the parts before painting, otherwise the paint will not take hold on the smooth surface.
• Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder flat.
• Fit the wheels dry first: check the wheel track and whether they stand square to the road.
• A road tread holds less mud than an off-road one, so when dirtying it reach for dust rather than coarse earth.
• Paint the rubber dark gray, as a pure black tire loses its modeling at 1:35.
• Super glue suits joining them to the model, as the joint area is small.
