What you get in the package

These are replacement front wheels for the Sd.Kfz. 6 half-track vehicle in 1:35. The tread corresponds to the off-road pattern that the name ranks among the less widespread ones, and it carries the Dunlop marking. The wheels will replace the parts from the kit without your having to intervene in the rest of the model. The exchange can therefore be managed even on a part-built example, provided the front wheels are still accessible.

Why it pays to change the front wheels

On a half-track the tracked chassis tends to be the most demanding part of the build, and the steered wheels at the front are then easily overlooked. Yet it is just those that are best seen: they stand free, nothing covers them and, viewed from the front, together with the fenders they form the outline of the whole vehicle. A well worked out tread and a clean tire shape therefore add more to the credibility of the model than the work they cost.

Building and painting tips

• Wash and degrease the parts before painting, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface.
• Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder down.
• Try fitting the wheels dry, check the wheel track and whether they stand square to the base.
• Paint the rubber dark gray; pure black looks flat at 1:35 and swallows the shadows.
• Bring the off-road pattern out with a lighter dry brush after the base shade has been painted.
• Super glue proves itself for joining them to the model.
