An injection-molded plastic kit of the German heavy half-track tractor Sd.Kfz.8 in the Gepanzerte variant, that is with an armored driver cab and an armored engine cover. The model is richly broken down: it contains a detailed engine, a multi-part chassis frame, worked-out running gear, individual (assembled) track links, rubber tires for the front wheels and photo-etched parts for the fine elements. It is an extensive kit with a high part count meant rather for more experienced builders.
The Sd.Kfz.8 was a twelve-ton schwerer Zugkraftwagen, one of the main heavy artillery tractors of the German army, used to tow heavy guns and equipment. The armored version was given an enclosed armored cab protecting the crew and was used above all with units manning the heavy 88 mm anti-aircraft guns, on the Eastern Front among other places. The half-track layout (steered front wheels, a tracked run at the rear) gave the vehicle traction even in heavy terrain.
On military vehicles it pays to finish and paint the running gear and the engine bay before the hull is closed; once glued, they are hard to reach. Assemble and paint the tracks and the wheels separately. Glue the plastic with thin modeling cement, apply a primer before painting and spray with an airbrush. For weathering use washes in the recesses and the rivets and pigments for dust and mud effects on the tracks, the running gear and the lower hull.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
