The Soviet SS-23 Spider 1:35 (Hobby Boss): an injection-molded plastic kit of a mobile tactical ballistic missile on a self-propelled launch vehicle (TEL).
Responsibility details are not available.
This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:35 scale from the maker Hobby Boss captures the Soviet missile system known in the West under the code name SS-23 Spider. The model represents the self-propelled launch vehicle (TEL) with the ballistic missile. The parts are molded in a sand shade and in clear plastic; the kit contains photo-etched parts, a detailed chassis and a cab produced with slide-mold technology.
The OTR-23 Oka system was a mobile tactical ballistic missile that the Soviet Union was introducing at the close of the Cold War as a replacement for older Scud-type missiles. It entered service in the early 1980s. The whole system was mounted on a wheeled amphibious chassis, which gave it high mobility and the ability to change its firing position quickly. The missile was both carried and launched from a single vehicle, which also carried the equipment needed to prepare the launch.
Assemble and paint the drivetrain and the chassis first, and only then close the body. The large smooth surfaces of the cab and the body call for careful filling of the seams and for an even coat of primer from an airbrush. Paint the body of the missile itself separately and fit it only at the end. For weathering use a darker wash in the recesses and earth pigments on the wheels and the underside, for the dusty look of field service.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
