Figures of a Soviet tank crew of the Second World War in 1:35 scale. Unpainted plastic castings for a diorama and for bringing a tank model to life.
Responsibility details are not available.
The crew of a Soviet tank could be told at first glance by the ribbed leather helmet with ear pads, into which the earphones of the intercom were built. Under it either a black tankman's overall or a plain khaki overall over the uniform was worn. The commander had a holster with a pistol and binoculars at his belt, and the driver pulled guards over his sleeves. It is precisely these small things that set a tankman apart from an infantryman and they are worth emphasizing while painting.
A vehicle on its own has no scale the eye can read. As soon as a figure leans out of a hatch, the viewer immediately sees how big the machine is and how cramped it was inside. The figures moreover give a scene a direction of gaze and a story, even if the model stands on a bare base.
In 1:35 a figure is around fifty millimeters, so it pays to shade the faces and blend the transitions. A leather helmet will take a warm brown shade with lightened edges, while an overall looks better dirtied and with faded shoulders. Before you glue a figure into a hatch, try the seating dry: turret hatches differ in diameter between kits and the legs sometimes have to be shortened or bent.
