A set of fabric seat belts in 1:35 scale for a model of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.V fighter.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.V is a British single-seat fighter from the time of the Second World War and one of the most widespread versions of the whole family. It is powered by a liquid-cooled Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 and you can tell it by the slender nose and the elliptical wing that gave the type its characteristic silhouette. The cockpit is set high and with the door folded down you can see into it, so the seat with its belts is one of the places on a model that the eye aims at first.
The belts are made of fabric, not of plastic. A fabric strap can be shaped, laid into a natural bend and left to drape freely over the edge of the seat, which neither a plastic nor a purely flat part can manage. The 1:35 scale matches aircraft kits made in this size.
Finish the seat first and let the paint dry; the belts are seated on a finished surface. Try dry where the straps will run from the anchorage over the pilot's shoulders to the lap, and only then fasten them. Shape the bends with a blunt point, so that the drape looks like fabric under its own weight and not like a cut strip. A taut strap looks unnatural at scale, and a slight sag always looks better. The exact fastening procedure and the recommended glue are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
For builders of British fighters in 1:35 scale who want the cockpit taken down to the last detail. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
