This base from the Black Dog brand in 1:35 scale carries the motif of a staircase with a column. It is not a kit of a vehicle or a figure but a ready ground for a scene on which your figures or hardware first gain a setting. The composition works with a difference in height, so a built scene looks broken up without any further additions.
A staircase is among the most rewarding elements of a diorama. It leads the viewer's eye from the lower edge upward and offers a natural place to seat a figure or lean equipment. The vertical column beside the steps gives the whole a firm axis and helps balance the composition if you plan to place the main object off the center of the area.
First clear the dust off the surface and spray it with primer, so that the shades hold evenly. Stone surfaces come out well when you underpaint them in a darker tone and apply the lighter color with a dry brush to the edges of the steps only. A flowing wash will bring out the joints; settle pigments in the shade of dust into the corners and at the foot of the column. Leave the horizontal surfaces lighter than the vertical ones; that creates the impression of a surface smoothed by footsteps.
It is supplied unpainted; obtain the paints and the pigments separately.
