The street base 1:35 Street with railing base joins a running surface with a railing. That creates a scene into which a model is set without any further building work. The vehicle itself and the figures are not included; the modeler supplies them.
A level street has nothing in itself to catch the eye. A railing brings a line into the scene that leads the viewer's gaze, separates the sidewalk from the roadway and at the same time offers a contrast between the hard paving and the slender metal. In 1:35 scale that difference reads well, which is why items of the kind are valued at shows.
Never leave the paving in a single shade; play the individual blocks out slightly, or it will look like a printed texture. Bring the joints out with a dark shade applied with a thin tip. The railing, by contrast, holds its fidelity by staying smooth and dark, with a hint of rust only in the places of the joints and at the foot.
