About product

Spider type road wheels for the T-34/85, 1:35, DEF Model

A resin set of road wheels for the Soviet medium tank T-34/85 in 1:35 scale. It is neither a kit of the tank nor a finished model; it is an accessory with which you replace the plastic road wheels from the box. The set captures the wheel of the so-called spider type, that is a pressed disc with radial ribbing and lightening holes, in the variant with a damaged, burnt-out rubber tire band.

What the set solves

Road wheels are visible on a model of a tank from the side along the whole length of the hull and their execution markedly determines the final impression. A resin casting carries a sharper rendering of the pressed disc, of the holes and of the mounting than a split plastic part, and it has no parting line that would have to be sanded away. The variant with damaged rubber moreover makes it possible to build the vehicle in a worn, in-service condition where some of the wheels have lost their rubber, a motif popular for dioramas and wrecks.

The real subject

The T-34/85 is the late version of the Soviet medium tank armed with a gun of 85 mm caliber in an enlarged three-man turret. The running gear used large-diameter wheels with a rubber tire band and over the course of production several design types of disc took turns, among them precisely the pressed wheel with radial ribbing. A combination of different types of wheel on one vehicle was common on machines in service.

Usage tips

First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water to get rid of the mold release from the mold. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and level the surface; sand wet and with protection for your airways. Resin is glued with cyanoacrylate glue. If you are building the wheels with the tracks, dry-fit them and check the sag of the track before the glue cures. At the end a wash into the recesses of the disc and pigments of dust and mud suit it well.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of Soviet armored vehicles in 1:35 scale
  • Modelers who want a vehicle in a worn, in-service condition
  • Dioramas and wrecks where the wheels are in the foreground
  • Anyone interested in a particular type of pressed road wheel

The set is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a model in its own right. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
